Bonnie & the BANG BANG is the kind of outfit that bridges music scenes here in San Francisco. If you haven’t heard the band’s debut LP The Dark Dream, which was released last summer, you have yet to experience the group’s moody fusion of jazz-rock, classic pop, indie folk and rock and roll that’s just as well suited for pristine concert halls as it is for whiskey bars. The results are a stunning and cohesive amalgam of Americana flavors that can sound both tough and sultry, thanks in big part to the dynamic vocal stylings of Patrick James Stiles.
Having just wrapped up a month-long residency at Milk Bar, the band continues to burgeon forth with its music video for the song “Medicine Man”, which we are proud to premiere right here on The Bay Bridged. Filmed at the Gundlach Bundschu Winery in Sonoma, the video was shot, directed, and edited by Ricky Kelley. Set to to swing and swank of “Medicine Man”, an archetype of Bonnie’s sound that simmers in dangerous vibrations hidden just beneath playful overtones, the video cools the surly track down in shades of blue before surrendering to its heavy guitar riff and switching to a more natural wash of reds.
