In the second installment of our artist spotlight series — in which we invite great emerging Bay Area bands into the studio to perform stripped down versions of their songs and chat — we’re excited to feature SAFE. The performing and recording alias of CF Edley, SAFE has tempted listeners with a sporadic stream of offerings over the years — an EP several years ago, a new single or video every so often — all reliably terrific, navigating a unique mix of electronic sounds and Edley’s emotive voice.
In this episode, we chat with Edley about his beginnings in music, and he performs two songs, including a cover of “God Bless the Child” and “Eye to Arrow.” While the artist relocated to New York shortly after this was recorded late last year, we’re hoping to see SAFE back in the Bay again soon. With rumors of some new releases on the horizon, that might make a Bay Area visit all the more likely.
Finally, you can see SAFE perform a solo set against the scenic background of Treasure Island, by tuning in to this 2ndline performance on Tuesday, February 4th, at 5pm Pacific.
