Kevin Morby

Fans of Kevin Morby, rejoice! Morby will be playing a FREE show at the Brick & Mortar Music Hall on February 4th as part of Wood Shoppe’s astoundingly FREE monthly shows. Rounding out the lineup is L.A.’s psych-popper Avid Dancer, Fine Points (side project of Sleepy Sun) and a DJ set by Zachary Carl-Os of Wood Shoppe. Did I mention it’s free?

As a Brooklynite, Morby started out playing bass for Woods and then formed The Babies, who I’ve always found more redeeming for the perfect musical partnership with Cassie Ramone of Vivian Girls. And then, proving he’s not one to rest on his laurels, Morby struck out on his own with Harlem River. Coming from a place of deep New York City worship, Morby recorded and released the album after relocating to L.A. The acoustically rambles of tracks like “Miles, Miles, Miles” are perfectly in tune with a flâneur’s dream. O, New York! The stand out track on this album is “Slow Train,” featuring former tourmate Cate Le Bon–slow and easy, catchy and dreamy. Listen below.
