UnderCover SF Presents Sly and the Family Stone's Stand

This weekend, UnderCover SF pays tribute to Bay Area legends Sly and the Family Stone with a live reimagining of 1969’s Stand!, the band’s breakthrough album, at The Independent.

Released in May 1969, the success of Stand! led to the band’s appearance at a small-town music festival called Woodstock just months later, where they delivered a star-making middle-of-the-night performance. The record contains several classic entries into the Family Stone catalog, such as “I Want to Take You Higher,” “Everyday People,” and “You Can Make it If You Try.”

The UnderCover project aims to take the music of Stand! in bold new directions, with the entire record being reinterpreted by a varied roster of local bands, artists, and orchestras like Con Brio, Bayonics, Awesome Orchestra, and Tumbleweed Wanderers.

Stand! runs for three nights, so you’ve got all weekend to catch this event. Check out UnderCover’s preview video below.
