Cold Beat + Tony Molina @ The Uptown

Cold Beat and Tony Molina, the acts behind some of 2013’s best releases, are teaming up on the first Friday of 2014 to give their fans a great gift for holidays – a free show at The Uptown. Oakland’s Yi and Washington native Cairo Pythian round out the bill, opening the evening at the Oakland venue.

Cold Beat, the solo moniker of Grass Widow’s bassist and co-songwriter Hannah Lew, dropped its debut EP Worms/Year 5772 earlier this year. The record, which we described as a “whirlwind of weird synthesizers, electronic remixes, and heavy post-punk bass lines,” can be streamed in its entirety below.

2013 saw Tony Molina release the excellent Dissed and Dismissed on Melters (his first record under his own name, despite having played in a number of Bay Area acts over the years), as well as an EP as part of indie rock giant Matador‘s Singles Going Home Alone series. Just recently, Molina announced that he would rerelease Dissed and Dismissed on March 25 via Slumberland Records. Below, listen to “Change My Ways” off his debut along with “Breakin Up” off the Matador-released Six Tracks E.P.
