Al Lover continues to bring two distant lovers, psych rock and electronic dance music, together with his latest release, the Headway Remixes. The album includes remixes of songs by artists on Headway Recordings, an up-and-coming North Carolina based label that focuses on ambient and experimental music.
Unlike his previous album of remixes, Headway focuses less on scuzzy, fuzzy garage and more on tripped out layers of psych, gravitated towards percussion, chop-block samples, and plenty of reverb. We can really hear Al Lover (aka Alex Gundlach) deliberately reconstructing each song to create a fully remixed entity.
In addition to Headway Remixes, which is available on cassette and via digital download, Gundlach is also well on his way into a full U.S. tour alongside Baltimore emcee Just Height. The San Francisco show is on November 14 at Milk Bar, followed by an Oakland show the next evening at Lobot Gallery.
