Cult heroes The Flamin’ Groovies continue on their rock and roll comeback trail later this month with a gig at The New Parish, a show that’s part of a lengthy North American tour with founding member Cyril Jordan and fellow classic lineup bandmates George Alexander and Chris Wilson. This SF-bred garage band isn’t just relying on material from their heyday in the ’60s and ’70s – no, the Groovies are back with a new six-track EP due out in 2014, and they recently premiered the album’s first single “End of the World” on Rolling Stone. The song, which the band revealed is the first Groovies track co-written by Jordan and Wilson in more than 30 years, is pure retro power-pop – the same fuzzed out sound that garnered the Groovies devoted followers over the years. “The song came together in the studio,” Jordan told RS. “The basic track was cut 20 minutes after I showed it to the guys. This was the way we cut originals in the past.”
Listen to “End of the World” and “Shake Some Action” (perhaps the band’s best known track) below, and then get full details on The Flamin’ Groovies’ November 20 show at The New Parish.
