Hardly Strictly Bluegrass is a dream come true for a folk music fan on a budget, with dozens of big names performing for free this weekend. Well, we’d like to keep that low-budget party going by giving away a pair of tickets to Saturday night’s show at Thee Parkside featuring Ha Ha Tonka, Samantha Crain, and Berkeley’s M. Lockwood Porter.
Porter, an Oklahoma native, has received some nice attention for his debut LP Judah’s Gone (including some from this fine publication), and he just wrapped up a mini-tour in New York. Crain is also from Oklahoma, but recorded much of her most recent LP Kid Face in San Francisco at Tiny Telephone. John Vanderslice produced Kid Face, and The Bay Bridged favorite Anna Ash also makes an appearance singing backup vocals. While Ha Ha Tonka doesn’t have an obvious Bay Area connection, they are a great band who has spent a ton of miles on the road and just released a new album, Lessons.
To enter for a chance to win tickets to see Ha Ha Tonka, Samantha Crain, and M. Lockwood Porter at Thee Parkside, email Russell.Jelinek@thebaybridged.com with “Ha Ha Tonka” in the subject line and your full name and email address in the body of the email. A winner will be selected at random and notified via email.
