Lapalux (UK) is making his North American debut following the release of his first full-length album Nostalchic, out now on Flying Lotus’ Brainfeeder label. He will be headlining 1015 Folsom this Friday alongside Evian Christ, Kode9, Vessel, and Hyperdub DJs.
The Nostalchic LP, released in March, brings a smooth, minimal R&B color to Lapalux’s sparkly, lush, and slightly glitchy production palate. Female vocal features are in dreamy abundance, with contributions from Jenna Andrews, Kerry Latham, and Astrid Williamson. His San Francisco debut comes a day after his performance at the Decibel Festival in Seattle. Stream “Guuurl” below.
If you slept through Evian Christ’s debut Kings and Them EP on Tri-Angle Records last year, you’ve definitely heard the young UK producer’s contribution to Kanye West’s Yeezus, providing the basis for “I’m In It.” Christ opened for Purity Ring at Bottom of the Hill last year. His Tri-Angle label mate Vessel will be making his San Francisco debut at 1015 on Friday, with Kode9 representing the top tier for Hyperdub.
DJ Rashad was initially scheduled to perform, but the label confirmed that he is currently recovering from a car accident and will be replaced by DJ Spinn on his upcoming tour dates including Friday’s Hyperdub showcase at 1015. The Hyperdub showcase will also feature a live performance from Natasha Kmeto, plus DJ sets from Ikonika and Brap Dem! Room artists Sinistarr, Benito, Sam Supa, Boats, and Sublo.
Clearly this is a big night for fans of up-and-coming electronic music. Just watch out for the club’s notoriously strict bouncers if you plan on getting “turnt up” or whatever.
