You can take Coachella and stuff it. I’ve been itching to hear some news on Total Trash 5. Word is out. Dates are set. Brace yerselves… The filthiest fest is back.
Headlining this years festival—–THE SONICS! Their first recording, “The Witch,” came out in 1964. The song remains one of the great punk rock songs of all time, covered by many. The band’s fierce attitude and songwriting has left many to call them the first punk band. Incredibly, the band has never played San Francisco until now! They will play the Rickshaw Stop on Saturday, November 2nd and Oakland’s New Parish on Friday, November 1st.
The fest kicks off appropriately enough on Halloween at The Stork Club, where the lineup will include Nobunny, Shannon and the Clams, Rock N’ Roll Adventure Kids and Yogurt Brain. Total Trash Halloween shows are legendary and typically each band pays tribute to particular trash heroes, often in costume. A few years ago Shannon WAS John Fogerty. We’ve also witnessed covers of The Gories, The Undertones, The New York Dolls, etc. I wait painfully for details on this year’s choices.
As noted, Friday will be at the New Parish, Saturday at the Rickshaw, and Sunday will be back at the Stork, the quintessential house of trash. Other confirmed acts include: Meat Market, Roy Loney (of the Flamin’ Groovies), Midnite Snaxxx, Legendery Stardust Cowboy (with Dead Kennedy bass master Klaus Flouride), Pangea plus Chad & the Meatbodies. More to be announced soon. Some tickets already on sale! Get info and tickets from Total Trash NOW!
