Five years ago, the Mission Creek Oakland Music & Arts Festival started as a spinoff of San Francisco’s Mission Creek festivities. In 2013, the festival’s a force to be reckoned with all its own, with a wide variety of events throughout September that showcase a number of local bands in Oakland performance spaces. Things kicked off on Friday, and, in the next few weeks, bands like Yip Deceiver, Buttons, Fossor House, Danny Paul Grody, M. Lockwood Porter, Vandella, Eight Belles, Field Trips, and more are all playing Oakland shows.
