Under his Caged Animals guise, New Jersey native Vincent Cacchione owns a distinctive, endearingly awkward brand of pop music – awk-pop, if you will – that foregoes fanciful language and speaks directly to the very basic, essential human emotions. With the heartache of “Teflon Heart,” and the longing of “Someone to Use,” he introduced the new project in 2011 with the LP Eat Their Own, an offering packed with addicting pop nuggets that, laced with R&B and tasteful auto-tune, are somehow tender and cool at the same time.
Compared to the improvised air of their debut, Cacchione and his band moved forward with more intention for Caged Animals’ sophomore effort, In the Land of Giants, which was just released on September 3rd via Lucky Number. Colored with the band’s signature minimal style, the record was birthed from raw, often painful emotions that Cacchione drapes in an optimistic blanket of accessible lyrics and bright melodies.
Currently on a North American tour, Caged Animals will be making a stop at Bottom of the Hill on Sunday, September 15th, with North Carolina’s Darwin Deez, San Francisco’s own The Soonest. In the meantime, In the Land of Giants is streaming on the band’s Soundcloud right now, and you can check it out below, along with the music video for the record’s opening track, “Too Much Dark.”
