The Breeders LSXX

Alt-rock heroes The Breeders are in the middle of a lengthy world tour celebrating the 20th anniversary of their seminal album Last Splash, swinging through SF today and tomorrow for two gigs at the legendary Fillmore, and we have a pair of tickets to the Wednesday night show for one lucky reader. Reunited for their first shows together since 1994, the band’s Last Splash-era lineup (consisting of Kim Deal, Kelley Deal, Josephine Wiggs, and Jim Macpherson) celebrated their most famous record’s platinum anniversary by releasing LSXX, a deluxe anniversary edition of Last Splash, on 4AD in May as a three CD box set, and then as a seven disc vinyl box set in August, and have since been playing to adoring fans all over the globe.

Although the Deal sisters have revived the band a handful of times with other members since they went on indefinite hiatus back in 1995, the Last Splash lineup hadn’t graced the stage as a single unit since the height of the alternative movement of the ’90s, when the Breeders were still riding the tidal wave of success following their breakout single “Cannonball” (watch the video below), touring with the likes of Nirvana, appearing on the No Alternative compilation, and gracing the cover of Spin. Now, the band returns to San Francisco, where they actually recorded Last Splash at the old Coast Recorders with Andy Taub in early 1993.
