San Francisco duo Chasms released a new EP Riser this week via Dream Recordings, and Warm Leatherette is throwing a release show for the band this Friday, August 23 at SUB/Mission in San Francisco.
Riser follows the release of the duo’s When It Comes EP and the “Bad Evolution” 12-inch single. Songwriter Jess Labrador crafts the crux of the EP with shoegazing guitars, melancholy vocals, and post-industrial drum machine percussion. Collaborator Sky Madden deepens the chasm with her droning bass riffs to complete the EP’s haunting, hazy tone. Stream the heavy title track below, order the Riser cassette from Dream Recordings, and RSVP for Friday’s release show on Facebook.
Following the release party at Warm Leatherette, Chasms will embark on tour with Dirty Beaches and SISU, returning to Bottom of the Hill on September 22. Judging from the duo’s captivating performance at The Independent in July, I suggest you attend at least one of these upcoming gigs.
