It turns out the most affordable California mega-festival of the summer also has one of the best lineups, with great local representation to boot. FYF Fest (or, Fuck Yeah Festival Festival, if you prefer) takes place August 24 and 25 in the L.A. State Historic Park down south. The weekend festival will feature performances from Bay Area ambassadors such as Thee Oh Sees, Mikal Cronin, and Antwon. We’ll go ahead and claim Ty Segall and Toro Y Moi too, plus not-so-local Bay Bridged favorites including Death Grips, Chelsea Wolfe, Kurt Vile, Jonathan Richman, Mac DeMarco, and Nosaj Thing.

Sold yet? I guess I should mention that My Bloody Valentine, Yeah Yeah Yeahs, TV on the Radio, Deerhunter, MGMT, Beach House, Solange, STRFKR, The Melvins, The Breeders, and Keith Morris’ (don’t you dare call them Black) Flag are also on the bill, which gets us through about half of the two-day lineup.

Weekend passes are going for $99 a pop, and since I’m sure a lot of people would pay that much just to see MBV alone, I’d consider this fest a pretty fair deal. Of course you won’t be able to see everyone, but still.

The hip-hop acts should each bring an especially intriguing dynamic to this year’s festival. Antwon is rumored to bring Sad Andy and Nanosaur out on stage, while Death Grips have intentionally been flaking on their scheduled performances in the name of “art.” See you in the Spicy Pie line.
