San Francisco punk outfit Terry Malts has forced themselves into the hearts of lo-fi garage fan ever since the release of their first recording, a six-track cassette, in 2010. Powered by an affinity for infectious riffs, the trio creates distorted, head-bobbing punk rock with a refreshing, uncalculated nonchalance. I don’t have the stomach to call it pop punk, but they call it “chainsaw pop,” and that pretty much says it all.
Following up their 2012 debut album Killing Time, the band recently announced the September 10th release of their sophomore LP, Nobody Realizes This is Nowhere, on Slumberland Records. The first single off of the record, “I Was Not There,” is a quick-fired track driven by bouncy riffs that flirt with pop but remain anchored to punk, while vocalist Phil Benson wanders into post punk territory with his cool-tempered style.
Terry Malts is playing a short stint of shows in Southern California this month, and you can find the mini tour dates below.
