Part Time

San Francisco’s synthpop outfit Part Time recently dropped their sophomore LP, PDA, on Mexican Summer, and the record is a push forward for the band, not out of  1980s synth-driven territory but further into it, offering familiarity, a thorough harvest of  vintage sounds, but also experimentation. Even with its layers of production, silky smooth transitions and cartoon samples, PDA is still driven by the vocal stylings David Speck, whose provocative delivery is sometimes sarcastic and other times downright sexy.

Part Time kicks off a small West Coast tour on Friday, August 16th, at The Chapel along with Berkeley’s Sam Flax and Oakland-based outfit Ruby Pins. The band is streaming “All My Love and All Your Love (Together We Are Fine),” off of its new album on Fader, and the track features Speck repeating the same line of lyrics in a faux British accent. It definitely feels sarcastic, and probably a little sexy too, but as always, its mostly warm, familiar and dripping in lo-fi synthetic sounds.
