Couches 7-inch

20 Sided Records and its founder David Mitchell are keeping busy these days. The label is gearing up for the release of Cannons and Clouds’ new EP A Challenge To The Dark, will follow that release with a celebratory gig at The Chapel on July 25, is releasing its fourth compilation These Strange Days in August, and will celebrate that release with four consecutive nights of shows at four separate venues in early September. On top of all that, Mitchell’s own band Couches is priming to release its debut 7-inch “California” b/w “Killer Mutant Butterfly” on September via (of course) 20 Sided, and the band “leaked” streaming audio of the album’s two tracks earlier this week.

The record is a hefty dose of what Mitchell and company call “slacker indie rock,” which he described to me earlier this year as “original indie rock, like Pavement, Built to Spill, Archers of Loaf, Sonic Youth, etc.” I’d previously heard both tracks at couple of the bands’ shows this year, and they both made the transition from the live setting to the studio quite well, as we already knew from hearing the b-side in Couches’ debut video back back in May. Listen to “California” b/w “Killer Mutant Butterfly” below, and keep your eyes peeled for more from Couches’ 20 Sided label-mates Cannons and Clouds here on The Bay Bridged later this week.
