San Francisco’s Cool Ghouls released their debut self-titled LP last month on city-based label Empty Cellar, and have since dropped the cassette version via the seemingly ubiquitous Burger Records. We’ve been all over this local quartet since last year (including my profile back in March), and we’re happy to see that Cool Ghouls has been well-received. You can hear why below, where we have the album’s three opening tracks streaming via their Bandcamp page. After playing up and down the West Coast during April and May in what looks like some sort of small SUV (see photo, above), the band appears ready to take on a broader view of touring after guitarist and singer Pat McDonald put out a wanted ad for a used van in a Facebook post last week (looks like Religious Girls might be selling the band theirs). Here’s hoping they find what they’re looking for, so they can spread their throwback rock ‘n’ roll sound to a wider audience.

Cool Ghouls will be performing on July 13, 2013 at Phono del Sol, alongside Thee Oh Sees, YACHT, Bleached, K.Flay, Marnie Stern, Painted Palms, Blouse, Radiation City, Surf Club and B. Hamilton as well as some of our favorite local food trucks. Tickets for the festival (presented by The Bay Bridged and Tiny Telephone) are moving quickly, so don’t lag – buy yours today!
