KZSU Wednesday Night Live

Not so quietly operating out of KZSU‘s warren-like studio on Stanford’s campus, Wednesday Night Live has consistently showcased the finest in local Bay Area music for the past 25 years. The show features a hell of a lineup this summer, which you can find below (or you can check it on Facebook).

What I really want to do right now is impress upon you just how much of a treasure this show is, and I needn’t present any more evidence than the video below. Don’t let Les Claypool saying “We’re Metallica and we’re glad to be here” fool you. That’s Primus playing Wednesday Night Live all the way back in 1989, the same year the band released its debut, the live album Suck On This. You can hear the band rip through many of the songs that Suck On This and the band’s first studio album Frizzle Fry made famous, like “John the Fisherman”, “Tommy the Cat”, and “Groundhog’s Day”. The video ain’t the best, but the audio is top notch.

That’s a hell of a lot to live up to for the bands scheduled to play this summer, but I have faith that the fine folks at KZSU’s Wednesday Night Live can do it. Tune in from 9pm to 10pm every Wednesday night at 90.1 FM on your radio dial, or listen online here. And stay tuned for details on Wednesday Night Live’s 25th anniversary celebrations!
