The Dandy Warhols

We’re giving away a pair of tickets to see The Dandy Warhols play at the Fillmore on Saturday night. But wait. Before you disregard this as another giveaway for an outdated, worn-out rock band from the early 2000s, consider this: the band will play their 2000 critically acclaimed album 13 Tales from Urban Bohemia in its entirety on Saturday. Released 13 years ago and now reissued, 13 Tales is a sprawling, epic kind of rock record, with horn-driven acoustic space jams rubbing shoulders with indie rock songs.

Best known for “Bohemian Like You,” which made its way into at least one TV commercial for its urgent, distorted guitar riff and lead singer Courtney Taylor-Taylor’s baritone and ironic delivery. Played like a Blur song with a sense of humour, “Bohemian Like You” is a mocking tribute to the urban bohemian — a category we’re never really sure if The Dandy Warhols fit into themselves. On a side note, I’m convinced that the track “Solid” is the first song written to make fun of the white hipster with an asian girlfriend trend that seemed to dominate the 2000s.

That said, go see this show for free on us. Bring your asian girlfriend, or your asian boyfriend, or whatever you’re into these days (some pills and a slacker attitude will work fine as well) and watch The Dandy Warhols bring back the 2000s with style.
