One of the Bay Area’s crown jewels will be feted on Saturday, June 22 with a special show just in time for the Summer Solstice. Mount Tam Jam: A Benefit for the Mountain will be held at the historic Sidney B. Cushing Memorial Amphitheatre (aka the Mountain Theatre), the gorgeous, century-old, stonehenge-looking
4000-seat stone amphitheater on top of Mount Tamalpais in Marin County. The show is both a celebration of and a benefit for Mount Tamalpais State Park, which celebrates its 85th anniversary in 2013, set forth as “a creative response to the well-publicized California State Parks budget crisis here in our own backyard, sponsored by the Tamalpais Conservation Club.”

Helping blow the roof off this North Bay icon are a host of out-of-towners, including Galactic, CAKE, The Taj Mahal Trio, and Mike Farris & The Roseland Rhythm Revue, as well as Marin hometowners Danny Click & the Hell Yeahs! The show will be the first rock concert at the venue since the Fantasy Fair and Magic Mountain Music Festival during 1967’s Summer of Love, which featured The Doors, Jefferson Airplane, Captain Beefheart, The Byrds, and Canned Heat, among a long list of others.

Mount Tam Jam’s goal is to raise funding for a slew of much needed resources to help keep the park thriving, from ranger and maintenance services to equipment for trail and bridge restoration and more expedient emergency response. Also, the festival’s Tam Jam Village will host a number of environmental organizations and provide educational and volunteer outreach “to raise awareness of Mt. Tam’s cultural legacy, the stewardship of its natural resources, and the ongoing challenges it faces in continuing to nourish and inspire.”
