The early stages of sun-kissed summer delirium are slowly creeping in, and who better to send us flying over the edge than Black Moth Super Rainbow and The Hood Internet? The double trouble bill (plus opener Oscillator Bug) will take over The Fillmore on Friday, May 24 during the tail-end of a month-long tour, and we are giving a pair of free tickets away to one lucky winner. Unless you have epilepsy, watch Black Moth Super Rainbow’s seizure-inducing video for “Hairspray Heart” below.
Still fresh off their sinfully syrupy fifth LP Cobra Juicy, released last fall on the band’s own Rad Cult label, Black Moth Super Rainbow will at last be supporting the album in San Francisco. Tobacco, the band’s enigmatic frontman, took a brief hiatus from the project to pursue his own solo work. He and his band members Seven Fields of Aphelion, Iffernaut, Ryan Graveface and Bullsmear finally rediscovered their sound and fleshed out their first album together since 2009’s Eating Us.
The new release comes more accessible than ever, without sacrificing an ounce of the band’s unique brand of occult psychedelia and warped vocals. “Gangs in the Garden” (above) is one of the catchiest weirdo anthems I’ve heard in years.
