Since forming in 2009, Oakland-based outfit Sister Crayon has captured an electronic soul sound colored with experimental, shoegazey vibrations. After starting out as a duo, the band evolved into a four-piece project, though founders Terra Lopez and Dani Fernandez remain at the helm of the their group’s creative direction, particularly for its latest offering, the Cynic EP. Released on April 16 of this year, the record casts aside any shy, pop sensibilities and instead offers five tracks of ethereal but powerful folk-tinged soul driven by loaded electronic beats, heavy melodies and Lopez’s poignant vocals.
Sister Crayon is celebrating its new EP with a record release show this Sunday, April 21st, at Lowbrau Bierhall in Sacramento with San Francisco’s electropop outfit The Frail. Find out where to get tickets over at the release party’s Facebook event page and pick up the Cynic EP over at Circle Into Square‘s official website. Until then, here’s the first single off of the EP, “Floating Heads.”
