mwahaha album cover

Oakland four-piece Mwahaha reissued their self-titled debut album on LA-based imprint Plug Research. The album, previously released on the band’s own label in 2011, now features two new bonus tracks, “Das Space” and “Amba”, that place a heavier emphasis on experimental electronic sounds.

“Das Space” is available exclusively on the Plug Research vinyl release, while “Amba” (which recently premiered on No Fear Of Pop) is included as an exclusive iTunes bonus track. However, both songs are available to stream on the Plug Research SoundCloud page. The tracks experiment with electronic instrumental sounds to create uncompromising pieces of noise-pop, contrasting with the vocally charged psych-pop found on the bulk of the original record.

Album opener “Swimmer” was recently featured on NPR’s All Songs Considered, and Mwahaha has a handful of upcoming tour dates, including two California gigs scheduled in April. They will be playing Boiler Room LA on April 9 with Amp Live, Shortcircles, Pegasus Warning, and Coultrain, and will also play a show at Bottom of the Hill in San Francisco on April 13 with Social Studies and Via Coma. Mwahaha will then head to Cornwall, England on June 30 to open for none other than Sigur Ros as part of Eden Sessions.
