The Lawlands recently began sharing their new single “Youth” on Indie Shuffle, which marks the first release by the band with Anthony Ferraro as their lead singer. Ferraro, who also has a solo project, the outstanding Astronauts Etc., was playing keys for The Lawlands when their lead singer left to teach English in Asia. Drummer Shaun Lowecki, who initially spearheaded the band, encouraged Ferraro to take over lead vocal duties. “We’re taking a straightforward rock approach. We’re stripping things down and focusing on songwriting and storytelling,” explains Ferraro. “You could say it’s sort of a reaction against the abstract, hide-behind-the-reverb approach that seems to have become the norm for guitar rock bands.”
There’s no date for a full album release, but you can download and listen to “Youth” below. It’s a great reintroduction to the band, which you can catch in person at Brick and Mortar on March 14.
