Though you may have heard by now, Portland’s The Thermals are currently gearing up for a massive comeback (though we are under strict instructions by their PR folks not to “call it a comeback,” so maybe don’t listen to us). In addition to a brief US tour, The Thermals will be re-releasing some of their most famous work, their first three records, on vinyl on March 5th, available for preorder now. Not only that, they’ve recently announced a contract with Saddle Creek and a new album — Desperate Ground, out April 16th.
Why are we telling you all this? They’ve got local roots: though they’re a long-established Northwest band, bassist Kathy Foster was raised in Sunnyvale. Locally, the band will rock San Francisco for Noise Pop and their old stomping grounds of Cupertino in early March. They’ll also be stopping by SXSW a week or two later.
