Giraffage, San Francisco’s 21-year old multi-instrumentalist/producer Charlie Yin, has made his Pitchfork debut with the new single “Close 2 Me”, and you can stream the track below, via SoundCloud. Yin will be performing live this Friday, February 1st at 1015 Folsom as part of a show featuring Matthew Dear as the headlining DJ, with support from Teeko, Avalon Emerson, and a handful of other DJs. RSVP online to print out a ticket for the Free Party Series. Those who didn’t get the memo will have to pay a cover charge at the door.
Giraffage recently signed a record deal with Los Angeles electronic imprint Alpha Pup Records and will release a digital mixtape called Needs on February 12th, via said label. “Close 2 Me” is the second single from Needs, which toys with pitch-altered samples of Cathy Dennis’ 1990s disco hit “Touch Me All Night Long”, firing off his signature blips and glitches between vocal hooks. Now that Giraffage is grabbing the attention of major press, it will be exciting to see what the future holds for the young local artist.
