Berkeley rapper 100s just dropped a video for “Hemsworth Outro”, which gives us a good excuse to introduce you to a talented MC we should have mentioned a long time ago. While Bay Area hip hop is especially strong in spacey, syrupy cloud rap, 100s brings more of an old-school feel, clearly playing homage to Snoop along with locals artists such as Too $hort and Mac Dre. He released his debut album Ice Cold Perm last September, and L.A. rap critic Jeff Weiss recently declared the album his favorite debut of 2012. The 19-year-old has an interesting background, too – he’s the only MC I’ve known to escape from an Ivory Coast boarding school. Learn more about his story in this interview on Vice.
Below, check out the video “Hemsworth Outro”, a fantastic hook-free track produced by none other than Ryan Hemsworth, and stream or download Ice Cold Perm (via Bandcamp).
