Matt Adams is throwing his proverbial hat back in the ring, dropping two new tracks from The Blank Tapes just before Christmas. Produced by Raymond Richards at L.A.’s Red Rockets Glare studio, these “secret singles” (as Adams dubbed them in a not-so-secret Facebook post) are entitled “Mr. Mister” and “1,000 Leather Tassels” and dole out two more doses of Adams’ potent brand of lo-fi indie rock. The first track features Richards manning the Wurlitzer, bringing a jangily, O.G. ’50s rock and roll element to the mix, while the latter is a more psychedelic adventure, with fuzzed out guitars and Adams at times dropping into an almost Jim Morrison-influenced baritone.

Coming on the heels of The Blank Tapes’ other 2012 releases, Sun’s Too Bright, the “I’m Back” / “Back & Forth” 7-inch, and the Sleepy EP, “Mr. Mister” and “1,000 Leather Tassels” are available to stream below via SoundCloud.

A little birdy also recently told me that Adams and company recorded some previously unreleased material at SF’s Radical House studio last year, so maybe we’ll get more new tracks during 2013. In the meantime, enjoy the new super-secret songs and check out The Blank Tapes live at Amnesia next Tuesday, January 8th, where they will be joined by fellow locals Cannons and Clouds and Travis Marks from Street Pyramids, as well as Santa Fe’s Treemotel, for the second of five nights that make up SF label 20 Sided Records’ Winter Residency at the venue.
