A favorite of The Bay Bridged, San Francisco’s Al Lover is back with a jaw-dropping remix of Nick Waterhouse‘s rhythm and blues masterpiece “That Place”. According to Lover, the two met a couple years ago at Rooky Ricardo’s Records in the Lower Haight, and their friendship quickly led to discussions of remixing one of Waterhouse’s tracks. Eventually, he chose “That Place”, the b-side to Waterhouse’s 2010 debut single “Some Place”.
Lover tells us, “I pitched down the saxophone and combined layers of crunchy breaks and percussion drenched in reverb to make the remix sound like something you might hear in a hash bar in Morocco or at least a cannabis club in the Mission District.” That description undoubtedly hits the nail on the head. Stream and download Lover’s remix of “That Place” below, and then check out Waterhouse’s rockin’ and rollin’ original after the jump.
