Brand New Trash (above, top) and Coo Coo Birds (above, bottom) are joining forces for a dual record release celebration tonight at Bottom of the Hill. The former band – a new project from Indiana natives, Oakland residents, founders of Buxter Hoot’n, and brothers Vince and Jimmy Dewald – is releasing their debut self-titled LP, while the latter is dropping its second studio album of 2012, the aptly titled Psychedelic Warrior.

The two bands are quite familiar with each other, as Coo Coo Birds’ bassist, Charles James Gonzalez, produced Brand New Trash’s album at Radical House Studios in SF and was dubbed that group’s unofficial fifth member as a result of his in-studio prowess. Says Jimmy Dewald, “

[Gonzalez] understands how to capture the trash and has been central in dialing in the right sounds for the upcoming release.”

In anticipation of the release of Brand New Trash and Psychedelic Warrior, as well as tonight’s gig at Bottom of the Hill, Brand New Trash and Coo Coo Birds are each premiering new tracks today, exclusively here on The Bay Bridged.

Brand New Trash previously released a four-song album preview featuring the tracks “Alana” (the record’s first single), “It Can’t Happen Here”, and “We Don’t Want”, along with a cover of Tupac’s “Brenda’s Got A Baby”. The quartet (which is rounded out by Kevin Alan Walters and Ebony Towner) also premiered a video for “Alana” back in July. Now they’re back with a new track “If You Let Me”, a slow-burning, fuzzed-out statement of intent to help mend another’s broken heart. Listen below, only on The Bay Bridged:

Back in September, we gave you a sneak peak at Psychedelic Warrior, premiering the track “Stop My Heart” along with a behind-the-scenes look at Coo Coo Birds’ sessions at Radical House. Since then, the trio comprised of Gonzalez, Jonny Cat, and Ryan Zweng scored a commercial spot, with Forever 21 using “I’ve Gotta Feeling” (off the band’s first record Don’t Bring Your Boyfriends) for their Fall 2012 ad campaign and did a brief tour of SoCal in a “psychedelic party bus,” the Tweet Busso. Today, they’re premiering “Dealerman”, a typically scorching and thunderous ode to some of the seedier aspects of the psychedelic lifestyle. Listen below, exclusively on The Bay Bridged:

Head over to Bottom of the Hill tonight for what should be a raucous night of trash pop and psychedelia, with Brand New Trash and Coo Coo Birds playing tracks off their new records. Sufis (another project of Jonny Cat’s) was recently added to the bill after The Blank Tapes their appearance were forced to cancel for some unspecified reason.
