These Old Wounds, the solo moniker of Oakland’s Thor Dickey, is releasing its debut LP To the Ground November 27th. Dickey, an Idaho native, also plays with LA hardcore band Retox and has collaborated and toured with Olin and the Moon. For the album and shows as These Old Wounds, Dickey has employed the assistance of Lia Rose, as well as other members of Or, the Whale, Olin and the Moon, and Built for the Sea.
At its core, To the Ground is a story of the Old West. “The record started as a short story,” explains Dickey. “But after coming to the realization that I am more cut out for writing songs than a novel I started to form the story into an album.” Dickey’s basic arrangements and gravelly voice provide the foundation, and his excellent band help build somber soundscapes. You can preorder the album from These Old Wounds’ Bandcamp page, and listen to the track “Home” below.
These Old Wounds are celebrating the release of To the Ground with a party November 29th at Bottom of the Hill. Becky White & The Secret Mission and The Bye Bye Blackbirds will also perform.
