Ty Segall, Thee Oh Sees, and The Fresh & Onlys are among those that recorded cover tracks for an upcoming The Velvet Underground & Nico 45th anniversary tribute. If anyone could do justice to Lou Reed and company’s iconic 1967 debut, it would be these guys. White Fence, The Mallard, Burnt Ones, and Warm Soda also contribute to the the album, which will be released in various formats on October 30th via John Dwyer’s Castle Face Records label in conjunction with Universal Music Enterprises.

The initial release of ‘The Velvet Underground & Nico’ by Castle Face And Friends will include a CD Super Deluxe box set featuring 30 previously unreleased Velvet Underground tracks including a rare November 1966 live concert and Nico’s “Chelsea Girl”, as well as an 88-page booklet. On November 6th, a limited edition vinyl release will follow. The LP is limited to 1000 copies and will not be repressed, so you may want to preorder it here.

Between October 15th and 29th, one new track from the tribute album will be made available for digital download each day. Additionally, the tribute will be released on a one-CD stereo album remaster, a two-CD Deluxe Edition featuring rehearsal sessions, and a digital exclusive.

This release is obviously a must-own for all fans of The Velvet Underground and San Francisco garage rock. The only question is which format to pick.
