Cult of Youth began five years ago as the solo project of Brooklyn’s Sean Ragon. Now expanded to a four-piece, the band released its second album Love Will Prevail with Sacred Bones Records on September 4th. Check out album cut “Garden of Delights” below, via Sacred Bones’ SoundCloud.
The band’s self-titled Sacred Bones debut, released last year, was a huge success, landing them tours with Zola Jesus, Iceage, and Cold Cave, which the band performed with at Elbo Room a year ago. For Love Will Prevail, Ragon built his own custom recording studio from scratch in the back of his Brooklyn record store, Heaven Street. Ragon plays five different instruments on LWP and even mixed the record himself. The album features Glenn Maryansky on drums, Christiana Key on violin, and percussion from Ning Nong, as well as female vocals from Beverly Hames (Battletorn).
Expanding upon the dark, neo-folk foundations of Ragon’s earlier releases, Love Will Prevail is sure to earn the band new fans with its dense and atmospheric accessibility.
Cult of Youth just began its Fall tour of the U.S. and will be headlining a Popscene show at the Hemlock Tavern in San Francisco on October 27th.
