Moon Duo, Psychic Ills

Psychic Ills and Moon Duo have teamed up to release a 7-inch split of psych rock awesomeness. The split 7-inch is out now on Sacred Bones Records, with a Limited Edition pressing still available for die hard fans and collectors, and it features two excellent tracks, Moon Duo’s “Zoned” and Psychic Ills’ “Take Me With You”.

“Take Me With You” finds New York’s Psychic Ills chugging away at a murky, relatively straight-forward road anthem. More abstract sludge pop musings can be found on the band’s recent Hazed Dream LP. Take a listen below, courtesy of Sacred Bones (via SoundCloud):

Psychic Ills also released a video for “Take Me With You” (directed by Robert Beatty and Coleman Guyon) that creates a disorienting context around the track with blurry lights coming together in strange shapes. Check it out below, again courtesy of Sacred Bones.

Moon Duo, formed in San Francisco in 2009 by Wooden Shjips guitarist Ripley Johnson and Sanae Yamada, is currently based in Portland, Oregon. “Zoned” is a charging force of thick smoke and hot fire. Recorded at the band’s home studio as an outtake and later mixed in Berlin, the track finds the duo taking charge of their heavy-meets-hazy sound and driving it into the ground with a spiraling sense of spacey intensity. Moon Duo’s recent stand-alone track “Sleepwalker” also packs a heady punch.
