Aan is youthful, and seemingly ineffective to articulate — in some ways, they weld the inventive flavors of Menomena and Yeasayer, with both mildly folk and psych-rock elements, and yet at the end of the day, elicit some At the Drive-In nostalgia with the vocals. Judging by first-listen instinct, the live show could be either just plain loud like the evening’s headliners (Religious Girls), or it could muster up some crowd movement in a cozy venue like du Nord. But take a gander at this festive living room performance of “I Don’t Need Love” captured by Northwest production group INTO THE WOODS, which debuted on IFC, and it’s easy to believe they’ll put on a show worthy to experience.
Aan’s debut album amor ad nauseum is set to be released this fall, and just before that, the Portland band plans to release a 7″ with Cool Summer Records (Little Owl, Gardens & Villa). Their Cafe du Nord show wraps a short West Coast tour for Aan.
