After a more than two-year drought of new material, Birdmonster returned in January with “Living”, their first new track since the release of 2009’s Blood Memory EP. The San Francisco indie rock outfit is back again, announcing last week that they intend to release a series of songs in the coming weeks and months under the Singles Project moniker:

Welcome to the singles project. These songs were recorded in fits & spurts in assorted basements & backrooms over the last year in San Francisco. We recorded them with an old 8-track tape machine and the kindness of a few friends. We’ll keep on adding tracks one at a time as we apply the finishing touches; direct from us to you. So check in often and, by golly, take care of yourselves.
Goodspeed, Birdmonster

The second track (following “Living”) is “Motel Pool”, a gentle song compared to their usual spasmodic take on indie rock, but still no-less gripping and consuming than the rest of Birdmonster’s catalog. Take a listen below.
