We previously brought you Mornin’ Old Sport‘s track “When the Bomb”, a lively and tongue-in-cheek number about the emotional fallout after losing a lover. The Oakland residents and Boston transplants have since released their self-titled debut full-length (out July 10th via Misery Loves Co.) and are now streaming the album in its entirety on SoundCloud.

Mornin’ Old Sport features 12 songs of what the band describes as “30s inspired jazz-country” and “neo pre-war Americana.” In a recent profile by the SF Bay Guardian, it was revealed that the original trio consisting of Kate Smeal (vocals, ukulele), Jeff Price (drums), and Scott Nanos (vocals, guitar, keys) recorded most of the album at Price’s family studio in Aspen during 2011. Upon arriving in the Bay Area this February, they fell in love with Oakland and recently added two new members from the local music scene (bassist Jack Kodros and guitarist Mike Schlenoff) to round out their live act.

Listening to Mornin’ Old Sport, it’s clear the band has progressed by leaps and bounds since originally forming as the “circus indie act” Wiffle Bat at Boston’s prestigious Berklee College of Music in 2006. Check out the newly-minted quintet’s unique sound below, and you can also download three tracks (“When the Bomb”, “Katie”, and “Clementine”) for free.

Mornin’ Old Sport is in the middle of a nationwide tour now. Unfortunately, the closest they come to the Bay Area is L.A., so hopefully they’ll book some local dates when they’re settled back in at home after a couple months on the road. Check out a full list of gigs after the jump.
