In late June, San Francisco-by-way-of-France singer/songwriter Helene Renaut recently released the video for her beautiful, meditative song “The Deer Convention” – the title track off her 2011 album. Intentionally grainy in the way classic 50’s home videos were, the project was shot by local film-maker Zach Von Joo.
Renaut is ecstatic with the finished product:
The result is stunning, dreamy, strange and like a dream dreamt in the silent movie era. I am so pleased with this collaboration – the aesthetics and analog approach match that of the recording, and Zach’s edit has a remarkable way of following and complementing the music.
If we didn’t know any better it sounds like this won’t be the last time Renaut and Joo collaborate, and we look forward to anything they might work on in the future.
