Does girly rock get you going? Do your eyes light up at the sound of crooner Alexis Krauss on Sleigh Bells‘ “Infinity Guitars,” or the smooth sadness of Bethany Cosentino on Best Coast‘s “Boyfriend”?
Maybe you’ve only dabbled in the genre, and just heard that one great Vivian Girls song that all your friends listened to, or that was on that one mixtape your college roommate made you after you moved out. You’re not quite sure if you’re an expert on it, but you know you like it. Hard core girl jams make you happy, and you want to know more.
Enter La Sera, the side project from Vivian Girls’ Katy Goodman: a softer, more approachable side to lady punk rock. Redheaded rockstar Katy is a true entertainer, going to great lengths to relate to her audience. (she even killed a boyfriend in one music video). Her sound is a great foray into the girl surf rock genre, echoing retro inspired groups like Tennis and Cults on songs like “Never Come Around”, but staying true to her Vivian Girls roots on songs like “Please be my Third Eye,” there’s no question that Goodman has got some serious talent.
Luckily for you, she’ll be playing at Phono Del Sol this Saturday, 7/21/12 at Potrero del Sol Park for a sliding scale fee of $7-10 (get your tickets via Ticketfly). She’s definitely an act I won’t want to miss.
