We understand that a specific, upcoming festival mentioned frequently in this space may not be everyone’s bag. We also understand that sometimes you’re in the mood for musical entertainment outside the SF and East Bay walls. If you’re thinking “Yeah! That’s me!”, may we suggest Point Reyes’ seventh annual Far West Fest held on Saturday, July 21st at Love Field (the same day as that specific, upcoming festival mentioned frequently in this space).

All shameless self-promotion aside, Far West Fest is an event that displays incredible community and non-profit fundraising support in the form of top-notch musical talent and regional cuisine – and it’s a bummer we can’t cruise up there. But you can! This year’s line up includes Les Nubians, Orgone, Vinyl, Kelly McFarling, MC Radioactive and many more on three stages. There’s also a wine tasting tent, Kidz Zone, and the Far West Grub Club featuring Tomales Bay Oyster Co. and a host of other farm-to-table local offerings. Tickets start at just $24 ($15 for kids ages 10-17, free under 10), with a VIP option at $60. You can also enter to win free passes by liking their page on Facebook.

Far West Fest is the brainchild of musician and event coordinator Adrienne Pfeiffer. “I started the fest as a benefit for KWMR Community Radio eight years ago when I was on staff there,” she says. “I book the bands in hopes of getting our community – all ages – dancing in the grass together!” In regards to artists she invites, Pfeiffer notes “I try for variety in the line up…bands with consciousness, bands that make you move.”

Over the years, the event has raised over $150,000 for area organizations including KWMR, Home Base, Open Space, and other youth programs. The event strives to be as green as possible too, with a 100% recycling and zero-waste mentality, carbon-offset options, and no plastic packaging. Best of luck to Adreinne and everyone involved in running the event.
