The Fucking Buckaroos – “29”

The Fucking Buckaroos – “Heading Back”

Punk and bluegrass may seem like strange bedfellows, but bands such as Split Lip Rayfield and Larry and His Flask have been successfully toeing the line between the two genres for years. Meanwhile, San Francisco’s own The Fucking Buckaroos have been making what they call “punkabilly psychograss” for the last 8 years, and recently released a cassette entitled II. In their 8 years as a band, they’ve released a 20-song LP, played up and down the west coast a couple times, and toured Mexico for 10 days around this past New Year’s.

Above, you can listen to “29” and “Heading Back”, both of which are on II. “29” is a punkish ode to Muni’s 29 bus line, while “Heading Back” has a more traditional country style and, well, non-traditional lyrics. Both are a hell of a lot of fun in their own way. II album is available on cassette at The Explorist International, a local book and record store in the Mission, from their website.

The Buckaroos are planning on releasing a remastered version of their 20-song debut on new German label Out of My Mind Records in late fall and are planning a 2013 tour of Europe. Locally, you can check them out live Wednesday, June 20 at SUB-Mission opening for La Plebe, who will be embarking on a Mexican tour of their own after the show.
