Tim Cohen‘s most recent venture Magic Trick (no longer coined “Tim Cohen’s Magic Trick”) will release its new LP Ruler of the Night on 6/12/12 on the Hardly Art label, and they are celebrating the occasion with a record release show at the California Academy of Science’s NightLife program on 6/28/12. Britt Govea, DJ and founder of (((folkYEAH!))), will also be performing at this special version of the Academy’s NightLife series, which is entitled “Gallery Crawl NightLife” and will transform the natural history museum into a pop-art museum:
For one night only, the Academy will transform into a pop-up art museum, featuring guest curators who will each take over a portion of the space with hand-picked collections that reflect their take on the intersection of art and science. See the selections of Tenderloin art pushers Ever Gold Gallery; Michael Cuffe, founder of online arts publication Warholian; Spoke Art, San Francisco’s newest art gallery and publishing house; writer/curator/street art aficionado Adam Reed Rozan and The Carassius Auratus Auratus (Goldfish) Institute; Electric Works Gallery, which tends to focus on contemporary art work balancing strong graphic and conceptual elements; Million Fishes; Jennifer Hennesy, plus other guest curators others to be announced.
Magic Trick, which also features James Kim, Alicia Vanden Heuvel, and Noelle Cahill, recently premiered a second track off Ruler of the Night, an ethereal folk song entitled “Invisible at Midnight”, over on Pitchfork. Check it out below:
