You know what’s great about living in San Francisco? All of the totally rad stuff going on outside the city! (read: where the sun is.) Huichica Music Festival — happening at the Gundlau Bundschu Winery in Sonoma 6/1-6/2/12 — is one stellar reason to get yourself a zipcar and drive north for the coming weekend. The weather is projected to be sunny, and up into the 80s!

The fest features all kinds of great Bay Area bands playing Saturday, including Sea of Bees, Sonny and the Sunsets, and Papercuts, plus some excellent acts from out of town like Poor Moon (a side project of Fleet Foxes) and Cotton Jones. Saturday is the big music day, with sets from 10 acts kicking off 1 pm and running through the day and night. Friday features a Farm to Table dinner courtesy of The Fremont Diner (known for their delicious pies), a DJ set from Andy Cabic of Vetiver, and an after-dinner show from the Occidental Brothers Dance Band International.

Saturday will also feature a line-up of food stands along with wine pairings (with charcuterie, cheese, and chocolate), and tours of the wineries caves for ticket holders. The “kid zone” will be open to festival-goers 12 and under and includes hoola hooping, relay races, and story time.

Try not to eat and drink yourself into a total coma, tempting as it may be in the Sonoma sun. This is a music line-up worth some real attention — the festival has two stages and none of the performances overlap, so you won’t have to do the pick-and-choose slash mad rush that some larger festivals necessitate.
