June 25th brings a special night of music to The Warfield, as composer extraordinaire Philip Glass teams up with Joanna Newsom and Tim Fain for a benefit show to support Big Sur’s historic Henry Miller Memorial Library. Pre-sale starts this Wednesday at 12pm with tickets available at FolkYeah.com, and the general public on-sale is this Friday at 10am here.
Located in a setting rivaled only by the musical talent that’s graced its stage, the Library has become a premier destination for top performers from all over the world (in-depth list here). Recently, however, the Library was told they must modernize their water systems and bathrooms to meet federal health requirements or risk shutting down. Specifically, Henry Miller Library must raise $140,000 in conjunction with overall plan approval in order to begin construction this fall.
June’s Warfield show is billed as the fundraising campaign’s official kick-off, but donations are already underway if you’d like to chip in. An open letter has also been posted by Executive Director Magnus Toren on the matter. Despite the mad dash to secure funding, the Library has been allowed an abbreviated musical season between June and October. Check out the current schedule, and watch Glass lead a performance of “Anthem Pt. 3” from the Hollywood Bowl last August below.
