Despite having attended a number of shows at The Independent, I’ll cop to being more than a little oblivious about the existence of the currently-vacant space next door, let alone the space’s legacy as a historic theater. The Harding Theater opened in 1926 and served as a movie theater and performance space until it became a church in the 1970s. The space has been in limbo for almost a decade, but community members are now seizing the reins to revitalize the theater space.
The folks behind the Harding Theater Revitalization Project are holding a community forum tonight at THEOFFCENTER (848 Divisadero St). There, they’ll be presenting their “vision and strategy for purchasing, rehabilitating, and operating the Harding” going forward. Full details in the flyer above.
