Sonoma’s Gundlach Bundschu Winery opens its 2012 event season on April 28th with a headlining performance from Sub Pop rockers Fruit Bats. As explained on Gundlach’s website, the band and wine makers possess a long-time friendship and mutual appreciation, resulting in added excitement for next Saturday’s event. Tickets are priced more like a Wednesday night club gig rather than a wine-related soiree – $15 in advance, $20 at the door – and include opening performances by Gold Leaves and Garrett Pierce. Mobile BBQ outfit Cochon Volant will also be on site offering up their popular slow-smoked brisket, pork shoulder, and beef ribs.
Originally formed in Chicago by Eric D. Johnson, Fruit Bats have released five albums (most recently 2011’s Tripper) and are currently touring across the country. If you can’t make the trip up north, they’ll also be playing The Independent a couple days earlier, on April 26th with Kelley Stoltz.
