Another beautifully dark and heart-wrenching track comes from the Tim Cohen-led Magic Trick, “Torture,” from their upcoming Hardly Art release, Ruler of the Night. Complete with those beautiful cascading vocals that bridge into an unending dream, this song could go on forever without notice, or at least get away with jamming it out live for an extra five minutes.
In celebration of Hardly Art’s fifth birthday, the Seattle-based label put out a Magic Trick/Seapony split on flexi disc, limited to SxSW attendees lucky enough to get their hands on a free Hardly Art zine. Both of these tracks are previously unreleased (and one can only assume Magic Trick’s contribution, entitled “Ruler of the Night,” will be on their forthcoming album). While the Magic Trick song isn’t available digitally just yet, Seapony’s “Prove to Me” is on Soundcloud. Check out this bad boy:
Magic Trick’s next show is prestend by (((folkYEAH!))) on April 25 at Great American Music Hall with Jonathan Wilson and Tortured Genies.
