Led by Van Pierszalowski (former lead singer and founder of Port O’Brien), WATERS have released two new live videos featuring tracks from their 2011 debut album, Out In The Light.

The first video — filmed at the Bamm.tv studios in SOMA as part of The Neighborhood intimate concert series — showcases “Mickey Mantle,” a nostalgic, upbeat audience sing-along that channels the catchiest parts of For Emma, Forever Ago if Bon Iver lost his melancholic demeanor and his falsetto. Pierszalowski has always thrived in intimate, living-room style performances — his voice can struggle to fill a larger venue — and this video is no exception. Just like his songs, Pierszalowski’s sways and grimaces are loaded with simple, contagious emotion best experienced up close.

Likewise, the second video captures Pierszalowski performing an acoustic version of “Take Me Out To The Coast” while he’s surrounded by local friends and musicians at Tiny Telephone in San Francisco. The video is textbook Pierszalowski. Simple lyrics? Check. Catchy? Check. A soft verse followed by a sing-along for the chorus? Yes and yes. While he might not be reinventing the classic folk-pop formula, Pierszalowski has a knack for turning WATERS into gold.
